Posted October 19, 2018 06:25:07 A woman in Florida has been captured on video by a door-bell as she was forced to watch as a stranger entered her home with a gun and threatened to kill her.
The woman was reportedly holding her 5-year-old son at the time of the incident.
Her son is not hurt.
The suspect, identified by police as 34-year old Jason Smith, of Jacksonville, was arrested.
A video obtained by WJAX shows the woman as she screams in fear before she is eventually subdued by Smith and a female officer.
The officer appears to grab Smith’s arm and hold him down as the doorbell begins to ring.
When the door bell rings again, the woman is able to break free.
She runs to a neighbor’s house to hide and call police.
A second video shows the door-knocking woman trying to flee.
Police say she was able to get away before she was fatally shot.
The police chief for Broward County, Jennifer Castillo, said Monday that investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind the door burglary and the officer’s actions.
Smith has been arrested.
The video released Monday shows a neighbor who called police after seeing a woman with a rifle inside a home in Jacksonville.
The neighbor called 911 to report the disturbance, according to police.
After the 911 call, the caller said she was told the woman had a gun in the house.
The caller told officers that the woman was “in the process of getting into a house” and that she was armed.
Police said that while the woman appeared to be armed with a handgun, no gun was found in the home.
The call was recorded before the shooting.
